The BBC have guaranteed, they will be creating a documentary -- following this amazing challenge:
In this amazing test of endurance Andrew will run through harsh terrains and extreme whether conditions, from the snow of the Scottish mountains, to the extreme temperatures of up to 45°C (113°F) in the Sahara. Through Spain and Morocco Andrew will be pulling his equipment with him on a sledge because of the sand.
Dr Murray is packing cereal bars, carbohydrate and protein drinks, tins of custard and rice pudding, apple pie, bottled water and potato scones to fuel him while he is away. To stay fit, he has to eat a staggering 6,000 calories a day -- 1,000 MORE than the daily intake of Olympic cycling legend Chris Hoy.
Andrew became passionate about the Yamaa Trust after winning the 140 mile Gobi Challenge in Mongolia and saw at first hand the poverty that exists there. Since then he has volunteered as the charities medical advisor.
Every penny Andrew raises will go directly to the Yamaa Trust. Andrew will be covering all the costs of the trip himself. To help Andrew reach the £100,000 target please go to the donation page at www.justgiving.com/scotland2sahara

I’m a 30 year old doctor based in Scotland. I work as a general practitioner and expedition doctor. Last year i was lucky enough to be in Mongolia, and see at first hand the amazing work that Dave, Enkhtuyu are doing out there, and the difference it makes. I was inspired to take on a really huge challenge to raise awareness of the poverty and need for help of the south Gobi region.
I’ve been running for 5 years and results include overall victories in races in the sahara desert, the gobi desert, the arctic and back home in the UK. I’ve also enjoyed reasonable results at the North Pole, the Everest Marathon but just love the views, and camaraderie that comes with these events.
The Scotland2sahara is far harder than any of the events I’ve done so far, and I’ve been training hard and will be doing several races and challenges in preparation for it, with updates on my blog. I’m incredibly grateful to Karen, Kate, Dave, Jennie, my family and everyone else for their support so far.
Thanks
Andrew
